Build a project showcasing the potential of live, in-game data in esports.

Data visualizations, Twitch Extensions, companion apps, or perhaps something entirely different? The only requirement - use official data sets provided by GRID to prepare a demo of your project and showcase live data potential!

GRID’s mission is to unlock the potential of in-game data for the entire ecosystem, and this time we put control in your hands!

It’s your time to Play with Data.

Let's start with what is in-game data, and why we challenge you to build with live data.

Imagine that you dive straight into the game. Where are you on the map? Have you executed a perfectly timed ultimate in Dota2? Did you escape a deadly 1v4 clutch in CS:GO? These all are raw in-game events that can be turned into data — player positions, K/D/A, abilities used, economy status. Every split second decision has the potential to alter the outcome of the entire game. Everything that happens in the game can become an in-game data point.

Live, in-game data updates as the actions occur. On the GRID Data Platform the data format is generic across all titles, so you can build for one or for many of them! Depending on the use case data can be made available with zero delay, in sync with the official stream or at a set delay.

For this DataJam we are providing you with the exported data sets available on GRID's GitHub to simulate live data behavior and help you to produce your project's demo.

Check out our Starter Kit & Resources tab for access to documentation and GRID DataJam GitHub. Don’t forget to join the GRID Developers Discord to meet other creators and get support from the GRID Team!

Opera GX Category

We are thrilled to announce the special prize category from Opera GX, the ultimate gamers' browser!

Build your live data-powered project and show how it can get integrated into Opera GX. From Opera GX’s mods’ add ons to an entirely new suite of features - unleash your creativity.

  • You don’t need to integrate it yourself, just showcase how your project could fit into the Opera GX experience!
  • Make sure you select the OperaGX category in your submission to be included in this category!
Why should building with official data make you excited?

We get it - you can get scraped data from many sources but trust us, official data in esports really does make a difference. Let's start purely with the source - esports data comes directly from the game server. The source defines the main qualities - the highest speed, accuracy, and granularity in both live and historical data. Official data also means sanctioned or endorsed by the rights holders, which means you rely on the feed you are using instead of worrying if the source gets shut down tomorrow.

The 'other' sources available out there are the so-called 'unofficial' sources - scraped without permission, most often from the delayed, public video streams. The game has one source of truth - its game server, and when data is not coming from there it is limited due to the indirect source of information - delayed, inaccurate and inconsistent. Not to mention that unofficial means not approved or supported by the rights holders which always puts your project at risk of unexpectedly losing the source of data.

This is why official partnerships are essential for us at GRID, working with rights holders we can plug directly into the heart of the game and provide the high quality data without a compromise.

So why to risk your project if you can tap straight into the in-game data potential?
