GRID Esports DataJam - FAQs

Where to find data? How to access the files? What to build?

Below you will find a list of the questions you asked us the most frequently, all in one place. And remember, if you have any questions, we are here to help - just jump on the GRID Developers Discord server and speak to the GRID Team.

How many people can I have on my team? / Do we sign up as a team or individually?
Teams are limited to 5 participants maximum. Each participant must register individually, whether or not they are on a team.
You can find teammates through the “Find Teammates” section located at the top of the DataJam Devpost Hub. Additionally, you can post a message in the designated #find-a-teammate channel in the GRID Developers Discord to find other participants pair up with. Please only submit one project per team.

What are the categories I can build under?

There are two categories you can pick from when building your project:

  • Main Category: Create a project that showcases the potential of live data in esports. Must use only data provided by GRID.
  • Opera GX Category: Create a project that showcases the potential of live data in esports (provided by GRID) and additionally, showcase how your project could be integrated in the Opera GX browser. Participants can essentially build whatever they want, be it a widget for the mod, a widget for a browser, a chatbot etc.  You do not need to integrate it yourself, just present in the demo how it fits OperaGX and how it would enhance the browser experience.

How do I properly submit my project?

  • Projects must be submitted through Devpost in the given submission period
  • Each team is limited to one (1) submission.
  • Please delegate one person on your team to complete the submission form.
  • You must include a demo video that is no longer than 2 minutes (If you're uploading your video onto Youtube, please make sure your video is public or unlisted).
  • You must include the link to their project’s code.
  • Project submissions must be in English.
  • You must select all of the prize categories you’d like to opt in to be judged for.
  • Remember to invite all of your teammates onto your Devpost project as contributors.
  • Devpost submissions form will have an "Invite your team" section, where you can either share the specific link with your teammates or invite them via email.

Who owns the intellectual property of my project?

By participating in the hackathon, the participant retains all rights, title, and interest in any intellectual property created by the participant during the hackathon.

How to access game data necessary to start my project?

You can access all of the necessary data sets here, on GRID’s Github.

Which titles’ data sets are available to participants?
We provide data sets from official CS:GO and Dota 2 competitions including Champion of Champions Tour, The International 2022, and the PGL Arlington Major 2022.

How do you access the data in json?
Here’s a comprehensive article we’ve prepared on how to load series events into a pandas dataframe. If you have read through the article and have any remaining questions, please contact GRID staff on the DataJam Discord Server, or email your question to datajam@grid.gg.

What’s the primary difference between state file and events file?
The state file represents the final state of the series. The events file describes how we reached that final state, event by event (when a player damaged another player, etc)

For further information, take a look at the event documentation on Helpjuice.

Do you have a rest API that allows me to fetch the game data?
Our APIs are not available or required for DataJam projects, however, a portion of our APIs can be accessed through the GRID Open Platform.
You can sign up and apply for access here:
https://grid.gg/open-platform

Should the demo be more solution-technical focused (explaining the technical structure), or business / user perspective?

The presentation should present more of a business perspective, it should be a pitch of your project. If you want to throw in the tech aspect it should be presented as an USP for the product, something that makes it stand out.

Is there support available to participants?

Yes! If you are in need of support please reach out to GRID staff on the DataJam Discord Server or send an email to datajam@grid.gg detailing the issue.

Who can I contact if I have questions that aren’t answered here?

You can check our Knowledge Base for your solution or send additional questions to the GRID staff on the DataJam Discord Server, post othem on the Discussion Forum or email your question to datajam@grid.gg
